In an interesting turn of events Facebook messenger could now have SMS integration. You may not be aware but you can already log on to your "Facebook Chat" through a Facebook site www.messenger.com. All without the need of using Facebook to log in.

Since Facebooks $22 billion take over of the messaging based app Whatsapp, a take over that not many people would have expected. Mark Zuckerberg founder of Facebook explained

"Our mission is to make the world more open and connected. We do this by building services that help people share any type of content with any group of people they want. WhatsApp will help us do this by continuing to develop a service that people around the world love to use every day. WhatsApp is a simple, fast and reliable mobile messaging service that is used by over 450m people on every major mobile platform. More than 1m people sign up for WhatsApp every day and it is on its way to connecting 1bn people. More and more people rely on WhatsApp to communicate with all of their contacts every day."

With that in mind it seems even more appropriate to start SMS integration with Messenger. Even more so when you consider of January 2016 the number of facebooks mobile monthly users is 1.442 billion!

This is even more staggering when you consider the population of Earth is around 7.125 Billion! And there is more phones in the world than there is people. multiplying 5 times faster than ourselves.

SMS is not an alien technology to Zuckerburg's team, They already implement SMS notifications for birthdays, notifications and follower updates. So this seems such a logical step for Facebook

So what does this mean for the mobile marketer? The future is bright. Very very bright.
